No wrongs just right

Today I would like to talk about the popular restaurant chain Outback Steakhouse. I always wonder why the place is always so freaking crowded? People must think they are waiting a hour to eat authentic foreign Australian food (like steaks, shrimp, burgers etc) at a five star restaurant. Other chain places are sometimes crowded. But only Outback seems to be that way ALL the time. Even if they were open 24/7 I could see a person going in at 4am and still having to wait 20 minutes holding the light up coaster thing.

I still do not know why Outback of all chain restaurants that serve standard American cuisine has had this success. It has a tired "Australian" gimmick that was last seen in the 80's when America though that everyone in Australia lived in the outback and talked like Paul Hogan.

Also to help with the authentic Australian experience the butter knife they give you with your bread looks like it could kill a man. I guess in Australian people have huge knifes when they put butter on their rolls.

But the thing about Outback that puzzles me is that nobody really thinks that the food is "Australian" anyway yet that has to be the gimmick that has made it more successful that other chains. So it has kind of got a then un-tapped market in American that wants to pretend to eat Australian food. This makes them (And the Bloomin onion) American heroes.

  1. I am really not sure why it is always packed. I have always wondered that myself. There is another place here called Texas Roadhouse and there is a two fricken hour wait on Fridays and Saturdays. I can cook a steak better than they can. Why would anyone wait two hours to get seated at a restaurant???? Does anyone know why the wait at a Denny's on a Sunday morning is 90 minutes? Supposedly everyone goes there after church but please... I would rather have my bowl of Lucky Charms than wait 90 minutes for anything they serve at Lenny's.
